Michel's At the Colony Surf   

Forty five years ago, we youngsters (early 20s) spent lovely Sunday afternoons at Michel's traveling downstairs from friends' apartment upstairs. As we grew older and had business commitments, the East Coast honchos loved the room, the atmosphere and the food for evenings and a brandy at the piano-bar afterwards. Casual elegance. With new ownership, the place has improved somewhat, but the wait-staff needs an intense crash course in service which stinks in general. The superb menu and kitchen prep is ruined by the cavalier and ignorant and rude wait-staff.

We had not been there for many years. Took some friends in early January '07. It was great. Marvelous service, excellent food, quiet dining with a great beachside view of Waikiki, wonderful music (guitar the night we were there). The most enjoyable restaurant experience we have had in a long time. Highly recommended.

Michel's at the Colony Surf is our favorite restaurant on Oahu. We flew over just to go there for dinner to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Make it a point to dine here and you won't be disappointed. Get there before sunset for a spectacular view. You will need reservations, I'm sure since the place is very popular.
