Just blocks away from the campus of the University of St. Thomas, a paisley-wallpapered stairwell envelops the creaking wooden staircase that leads up to a cozy, warmly glowing piano bar. The antique bar and blond-colored, oak-paneled walls adorned with framed art prints of the venues namesake give Cezanne's an atmosphere reminiscent of a drawing room in a French country manor. There isnt a bad seat in the house as the intimate, amphitheater-style seating puts patrons extremely close to the playing area to enjoy the great sounds of the Woody Witt Quartet or any of the other premier local and national artists making the scene. Bill, the 80-years- young bartender, is an adorable mainstay who mixes humor and quick wit with his cocktails, including a most tantalizing chocolate martini. Complementing the full bar, appetizers and desserts can be ordered from the restaurant downstairs, the Black Labrador. -- Felicia Griffin

Great place..saw guitarist Mike Nase an his assembled quartet in Jan. '03 and it was fabulous..very intimate interaction with the musicians got them fired up and they blew us all away...too cool.

Great little place for first class jazz. Go early to get a seat, as things fill up quickly after the doors open. Has a nice atmosphere, where the crowd is very adult, mature people looking for serious jazz.

I have been there several times now and each has been a most wonderful experience. Lovely , intimate, cozy feeling. You can get upclose and personal with the band members and they love to work with the audience. If you like good quality jazz this is the place to go. The only drawback is the limited number of seats, but worth the standing.
