Zake   

Zake, formerly known as Royal Japan, represents the current state of sushi -- chic but affordable, sleek and modish but with a hip invitingness for all. Making the most of the corner location, huge cafe windows line the deep maroon booths that parallel the restaurant-length bar. A parade of cheery Japanese cat flags waves overhead. You can choose your sushi atmosphere as the restaurant is divided into two distinct lengthwise halves -- the sedate understated bar on one side and on the other, large rooms set up with hooded hibachi oven tables, instant party food as the showman chef makes a spectacle out of the flame and fish. The menu offers your classic assortment of sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and noodles, with a few surprises such as a chateaubriand or even the "twin lobster" special. Many specials are off-the-menu, so ask your helpful server about these.
