A popular haunt for local college students and artists, Brasil cultivates a relaxingly hip atmosphere in which to enjoy a great cup of coffee and conversation with friends. The bar offers a nice selection of wines and draught beers, as well as five varieties of coffee a day, espresso, herbal teas and frozen drinks. The kitchen serves fantastic focaccia bread sandwiches (try the vegetarian Brasil Club), specialty pizzas, spinach quiche and other top-notch coffeehouse fare. Local art and photography always enliven the comfortable interior, with featured exhibits changing periodically. Nearly every night of the week Brasil hosts excellent live music performances in any number of genre, including standard and experimental jazz, ethnic and world music, turntables and indie rock. The well-shaded outdoor patio is a peaceful place to meet during the cooler parts of the year and fills up quickly in the evenings. --Chase Hamblin

Very awesome, exotic and eccentric. Typical place for college kids to go to. My girlfriend brought me there the other weekend and it turns out my sisters used to go there when they were in college too. Great date spot, cozy, good food for less money! My girlfriend and I shared a four cheese pizza (omg so good) with mushrooms and an appetizer of hummus and pita bread(to die for) for only $14. Something like that normally costs you $30. Gotta check out the restrooms, very fun, and very college eccentric. And I don't know how they did it in 2003, but when I went, you ordered your food at the bar, took a number, and sat anywhere you wanted and theyd find you.

Brasil is hard to spot for the foliage. I love that, because you feel as if your entering your own private Narnia or something. The staff are always responsive and the food is great. I recommend the chicken salad sandwich. The house red wine is also really good. It's a great place during the daytime to unwind and chat up friends. At night is cool too, with good bands and lots of cute and interesting people. There are a lot of coffee shops in Houston but Brasil by far has that IT factor that keeps you coming back for more.
