This unpretentious ranch-style restaurant has served award-winning steaks since first opening its doors in 1936. Recently purchased and given a facelift by local restaurateur, Tilman Fertitta, (the brains behind the Landry's restaurants), the revitalized Brenner's is expected to quickly resume winning awards for the city's best steaks. Masterfully seared beef, preserving flavor and tenderness, continues to be the passport to Brenner's success. Shrimp, gulf snapper and the famous fried chicken are some delicious alternatives. Side dishes like German skillet potatoes, sauteed mushrooms or a perfectly piping hot baked potato can adorn your entree. Brenner's famous homemade salad dressings, especially the mouthwatering Roquefort, are tried-and-true salad toppings. This comfortable and intimate atmosphere offers warm wood paneling and a lovely fireplace. Patrons can enjoy the view from both the dining room and the bar. Select from the excellent wine list, or make a personal visit to the wine cellar. -- Missy Bryant

Shoe Leather or Steak?
By Its Just Bridget on 06/15/2008
We ate here one time, and would never go back. Yes, it was quaint, and the staff was nice. The steaks were horrid. I agree with dchessercat2, and frequent Lynn's. In our opinion, that is truly the best steak house. The atmosphere, service and wine list are unsurpassed.

Excellent food and service

My 15 year old son and I celebrated his birthday w/ a fabulous dinner at Brenner's last evening. Everything from making the reservations to putting a subtle candle in his dessert was perfect. We wanted to feel very welcome, enjoy great food, and be left alone. Brenner's definitely fit the bill on all counts. Our waiter Ron was friendly and professional, but not annoyingly cloying. A real professional Our 16 oz. rib eye and strip steaks were superb. The ambiance at Brenner's was fine. The small rustic dining room was packed yet we could still talk. No annoying music either. The garden adjacent to the dining room-- w/ a brook and small waterfalls -- is a welcome and soothing anachronism considering it is next to the dusty Katy Freeway. The bill came to $150 or so. We definitely got our moneys worth, and more. And my son really appreciated the low key birthday candle. He'd cringe at singing happy birthday -- as I assume the other guests would too.

The only choice for steaks in the Houston area. Service is impecable and the ambiance is incredible. No chrome and glitz here
