The area surrounding Rice University doesn't exactly lack for bars, but none draws the crowd that this Irish pub and restaurant manages to pull in. Starting around lunchtime, Rice students, shoppers from the Village Arcade shopping center, and local workers start their migration to the shady New Orleans-style patio for a leisurely meal and, perhaps, a pint. The extensive selection of drinks - including draught and bottled beer, wine by the glass or bottle, and traditional cocktails - is available for happy hour prices starting at 3PM on weekdays. The food menu is huge and is more refined than traditional bar offerings, with eclectic fare like curry pork medallions, chicken tortilla soup, and sirloin shepherd's pie. Bar games and people watching provide plenty of entertainment, but local bands take the stage in the evening Wednesday through Sunday.
