A team of four huge horses pull a chariot atop a marble portico. An immense Buddha lounges in the hall, his head alone the size of most diners. Camels bray overhead, their stony countenances nearly life-sized. A glass wall inscribed with Chinese characters sets off a sumptuous dining room, while gas lamps flicker and wavering pillars of green glass create the appearance of jade, the precious namesake of the extravagant Cafe Le Jadeite. Occupying the prominent corner space in the Art Deco River Oaks Shopping Center, Cafe Le Jadeite has created a theatrical setting for an upscale Asian dining experience. The menu is almost as streamlined as the setting is elaborate, with spare understated dishes like Iceland cod with pine seeds or Hunan beef.
