This sunny little cottage in Montrose is the culinary masterwork of Chef Marco Wiles, who uses zesty spices, tangy fruits and flawlessly seasoned meats to bring out the flavor in his northern Italian recipes. No heavy cream and just a touch of butter make for deliciously light dishes like sea bass with grilled grapefruit, flash-fried artichoke and brussel sprouts with bacon pancetta. Wiles' favorites are on the menu, as well familiar Italian fare, with a chic attitude. Start with a delicious fennel broth, or hearty cauliflower soup, accompanied by Da Marco's signature salad of shaved celery with beets and pecorino. Favorite entrees include bacon-wrapped guinea hens drizzled with grape sauce, pork shank with gremolata and a variety of tender pastas topped with homemade sauces. There's an impressive wine list, and a decadent dessert menu that features a sinful cannoli stuffed with ricotta cheese. -- Lyn Foster

Mick was turned down
By jespel on 03/10/2005
Turning away Jagger and the Stones during a stopover in Houston says something: honesty. Honestly full of patrons who appreciate real Italian without the kiss-ass attitude of most Italian joints in town. Sure Mick and buddies would have agreed...the food is Italian, deliciously powerful and deceptively simple. The all-star Italian wine list is unsurpassed and rounds out the adventure. Like the Press says, Da Marco's competition is in New York, not Houston.

Real service and good food! Waiters who know what they're serving and with good explanations. I'll go back.

Artistic
By wadester2u on 08/17/2004
The dinner entrees here are beautifully artistic in presentation and taste. While the inside dining room tends to be noisy when crowed, we found the enclosed patio to be much better suited for a quiet dinner and personal conversation. The albacore salad with arugula was wonderful, and was the grilled octopus salad. Lamb shank in cabernet reduction sauce, and the gnocchi pasta were simply wonderful. The menu is a blend of creative nouveau Italian dishes that you will not find on any other Italian restaurant menu, and judging from the dishes tried, I'd dare to say there's no way to make a wrong choice. The service is impeccable as well. I'd rate it five stars, if there were just a little more room and quiet in the main dining room. But then, space in Montrose is in short supply.
