Although not a historical site, this quaint coffee shop easily qualifies as a neighborhood icon. Outside the area has grown and changed since 1965 when the shop first opened its doors but, inside, things seem to remain the same. From the large vinyl booths and stone covered walls, to the ever-present display of freshly baked pies, this place is a constant. Morning commuters rush in looking for a hot, quick breakfast and the service at the counter is some of the fastest around. Breakfast platters and bottomless cups of coffee are served up hot and fresh, 24 hours a day. At noon, the pace slows down a little and with double yeast rolls and cornbread muffins arriving on the scene, while the Blue Plate Special runs seven days a week. The servings are large, the coffee is fresh and the fruit and cream pies are plentiful. If you dont save room for a slice of dessert, no problem a piece or the whole thing, fits easily into a to-go box for later, when you do have a just little more room left.
