Joe's Crab Shack originated here in Houston, and its casual attitude toward decor, combined with its serious pursuit of serving the best crab in the country have made it one of the most prolific restaurant chains this side of Red Lobster. Joe's is casual and cool, with a comfortable patio that overlooks the huge "beach" playground and a lively bar that's usually filled with couples waiting their turn to pound on Joe's yummy stone crabs. Kids get a kick out of the energetic waitstaff, who often dance on the tabletops to Jimmy Buffett tunes. Joe's offers plenty of menu choices for mom and dad, while serving the basics on any kid's diet: corn dogs, burgers, chicken fingers, mac 'n' cheese, pizza and popcorn shrimp. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the food is simply prepared to be full of flavor. Come early and stay late because the boat is always rockin' at Joe's. -- Amy Kerr

NOT Family Friendly
By sundanceearth on 03/06/2006
While the atmosphere may be fun for kids, (we've been 3 times...not going back...ever!) The food is mediocre, and definitely not worth the high prices nor the excruciatingly long wait to get it. The quickest turn around from ordering to being presented with our food was 45 minutes. Servers are friendly, but either the staff or concept is totally inept. My guess it's the concept (and probably understaffed). Each of our visits was to a different location. You can have enjoyable conversation and kids can have fun almost anywhere....but nobody wants to wait 45 minutes for food in a restaurant. We went there because we were hungry and wanted to eat. We didn't order our meal in anticipation of being hungry in a while and waiting a long time for food.

If you want a noisy, bustling place to take the kids...this is the place. No one will care if the kids are loud. Sometimes service is lacking simply because they are so busy all the time. Only had one bad experience and it was bad...but the manager bent over backwards to keep us coming back. We have and we have enjoyed it since.
