Part of the delight of the exquisite cooking you'll find here is the unabashed modesty of the surroundings. Everything about Mz Eydie's famous burger is just enough: the thickness of the homemade patties, the length of time they spend on the grill, the amount of lettuce and other fixings they support, even the sprinkling of black pepper that pervades each bite. With cheese melted into the bun, this two-handed burger may well be the best in town -- or on the planet, some devotees would argue. Some of the daily specials have developed a rabid following of their own, and deservedly so.

One of Houston's hidden treasures

I understand txskip's message; too many new people make it difficult to get into one of my favorite restaurants. Lankford's surroundings are quaint and old. The wait staff is good, but absolute characters--check out Robin. But Edye knows how to cook. The burgers are awesome and big. How someone handles a double or triple is a miracle. I used to go just for the burgers, but my co-workers sold me on her daily specials--pot luck on Monday and Tuesday, enchiladas on Wednesday, chicken fried steak on Thursday, and taco salad on Fridays. And Monday thru Saturday, she makes some mean breakfasts. Where else in town can you get 3 eggs, bacon or sausage or ham, potatoes or grits, toast, and coffee for $5.50? Not sure where Edye learned to cook like this, but she does it great.

Fabulous!

This is the way burgers should be. This place has serious charm and personality. The portions are huge, and the food is great. I've always found the staff to be polite and friendly (even when some of the customers were jerks!). The chicken fried steak on Thursdays is to die for. But get there early :)
