In case you're training for the next world-class eating competition, you need to know about Mel's Country Cafe, a dive of a restaurant northwest of Houston. Their Mega Mel Burger is a 1 pound monstrosity complete with six beef patties stacked high and layered with -pound of cheese and a full pound of bacon, plus all the trimmings. Those lucky few who are able to finish it by themselves within the two-hour time limit earn a place on Mel's Wall of Fame. For the less adventurous, or perhaps the less hungry, a regular Mel's burger - a half-pounder cooked to your specs - is worth the trip. Other menu items that get raves from regulars include the enormous chicken fried steak and the fried catfish.

A Heart Attack on a Plate ?
By DAVIDHTX1 on 03/22/2009
Have not eaten here yet but after reading the reviews I have no desire to. Have a feeling that many of the patrons weigh in at 250+. Is is really GOOD food or is it just a lot of saturated and trans fat stacked on a plate loaded with sodium? When are you going to get it folks ? GOOD food is healthy food cooked at HOME. Especially on Sunday. Teach your children well ?

The best catfish and plenty of it. One order feeds two. Everything I have gotten is excellent. Their onions rings are wonderful!!

here from Oklahoma. The brother went and got take out. Chicken fry, catfish, steakfingers. I have never seen so much food. We ate on it for a week, literally! I have never liked leftover fish, but I was eating fish sandwiches or just heating it up and snakin. And the chicken fry....need I say more?
