Rate and Write a Review Because of its huge patio, Monkey's Tale blues bar is a popular place to be during the warmer months. There's also an indoor bar and restaurant open all year round. It's a big hangout for graduates of area universities, and also for people taking a breather from the adjacent Jazz Cooker, which is run by the same people. The Jazz Cooker is Broad Ripple's little slice of The Big Easy. Nestled in one of the area's oldest 19th-century homes, the restaurant dishes out hot, Southern-style Cajun and Creole cuisine in a casual atmosphere. Menu items range from steaks and chicken to seafood and pasta. For true bayou favorites, check out their pasta jambalaya and shrimp and crawfish etouffee. Be warned: If it says "spicy," they really mean it. And what would be New Orleans without the jazz? The Jazz Cooker offers live music from 7-10PM on Fridays and Saturdays. After 9:30PM seven nights a week, the Jazz Cooker turns into the Monkey's Tale with live music. While it's no Garden District, there is outdoor dining available from March through November on the patio.
