From Snoop Dog to Sinatra -- the musicians at this dueling piano bar can play it all (in one form or another). Centered around the stage, Howl At The Moon is an interactive concert. Wall flowers can attempt to remain safely in their introversion, but audience participation is almost requisite. It's all part of the fun. Drums, guitar and plenty of brass -- the musicians provide the songs and most of the comedy. The largest customer demographic are bachelorette parties (this explains why the staff is mostly guys). They also have the largest back bar in Indianapolis. The horseshoe-shaped glass monolith has the widest selection of liquor in town. White Buckets ($23) are their specialty (and best seller). It's a 25 oz. mixed drink, complete with as many straws as needed. The most popular is Sex on the Beach. Margaritas come in second, but the bartenders can concoct whatever is desired. Piano show begins nightly at 8PM.

Had a blast

We went on a Saturday for Dual of the pianos. It was awesome! They play anything and everything and you can fill out a request for any song. Drinks are kinda pricey, but they are poured well. Great atmosphere....I will be going back again soon!

What a fun place!!!!

We are from NYC and were in Indianapolis for a convention last weekend. We went at Howl At The Moon all week and had a great time every night.....I don't know how the performers do it night after night....a different show everyday...all requested songs and they know pretty much know anything you put on thier pianos. The staff was also hardworking ...they were swamped every night and we had great service. Friends of ours recommended Howl at the Moon to us because they have been going whenever they have been in town for the last couple of years...this place rocks...and we will be back next year. Word of advice for the weekends, get there early there was a huge line down the street!

A great bar, no question

I just stumbled into the previous review and had to laugh when I read it. We go to Howl at the Moon all the time and have never seen the players treat any group differently because of their race or culture. This club is always filled with people of every race, gender, and sexual preference. Most of them enjoy themselves and come back often because it is all about having a good time. Sure, people are insulted sometimes by the players, but it is all in the name of fun and humor. If you were offended so easily, then you either need a sense of humor, or a new place to hang out where you will never be offended (good luck). If you were insulted by the entertainers, it probably had more to do with something you were doing, or better yet, something you were NOT doing. If you are sitting there trying to have a conversation, ignoring the show, you are going to get pointed out. It is not the place to discuss schoolwork, the kids, or what you did on your day off. We go to Howl at the Moon at least a couple of times a month. It is the only bar in Indianapolis that has not fallen into the same ol' "Pay cover, stand around listening to bad rap and hip-hop, pay a fortune for drinks, repeat". It has live entertainment, a laid-back atmosphere, and people who are "real." Racist? I don't think so. Politically incorrect? Maybe sometimes. A great time?? Always!

Rascist Bar
By snlshar on 04/11/2007
I was at the bar on April 7, Saturday to celebrate one of my friends birthday. We were five Indians (all in legal status) who entered the bar that night after paying $8/person cover . There were 3 -4 tables occupied . But we saw a huge sign saying "Please do not move tables or chairs".Not to be rude , my husband approached one of the servers and asked him if it would be possible for him to move one of the chairs, and he reacted as if he didn't understand the language my husband spoke. My husband really thought he didn't understand him, and asked him again if he could move one of the chairs. He replied saying that he couldn't move the chair. My husband wasn't irritated because he said "no" for moving the chair, but in the manner in which he reacted, it was truly DISGUSTING.It was rude behavior which was totally uncalled for. The tables are arranged with chairs around the table, so one of my friends was seated with his back to the piano. We were very busy discussing something important, and the pianist/performer starting singing. It had just been about 10 minutes into the show and he flashed his light at my friend (the one with the back towards the piano) and asked if he knew which song he was singing, we didn't realize that he was speaking to him because we very busy talking. And then Todd repeated the same statement, and then said "looks like he doesn't understand English"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were really amazed at his remark, would he have said the same thing if it was a white guy sitting instead of a brown skinned Indian. I am disgusted by the performer's obnoxious remarks. My friend is an IU grad and is currently pursuing his PhD at Univ. of Maryland. What was the reason that he was picking on us??? Is public humiliation a theme at Howl at the Moon??? Or is it that they just do not welcome brown skinned people.I have never felt so out of place and insulted in the United Sates of America .
