So; i went to the steak house with my uncle and i thought it was gross. Like when i got my food, the steak and lobster were cold. The desert was really really good though. I still think Ruth Chris is the best (:

Indianapolis Institution

If you love steak.......this is the place to go in the city. Their bread is freshly baked and wonderful, you must try the shrimp cocktail! My only food complaint is with the garden salad.......for a place that serves 40 dollar steaks, iceburg lettuce seems to cheapen the meal. The service is swift but the staff can be considered dry or mildly hurried to people that are not used to restaurants at this price point. This place is always packed, so reservations are a must.

Wow?

For years St.Elmo's served fantastic Steaks, large prime cuts of beef, large shrimp, huge salads all included in the meal. The corporate america purchased this great small business legend. Steaks are smaller, they substitute Choice beef, reduced sized of the shrimp, salads, potatoes, soup is no alacarte. The current ownership has destroyed an Indiana institution. Luckily Harry, Izzy and Jeff built the name and for a time St. Elmo's will ride on the legend they created. To the current owners "Shame on You" I used to eat here at least twice per month with friends. I ended up telling them if they wnated to eat cheap. Buy a steak from walmart. They also have a good selection of shrimp and cocktail sauce. Or notice how people often point out how many go there? Now I avoid your place like the plauge and advise people 'it ain't what it used to be.

I know this restaurant is an Indianapolis institution, but nothing lasts forever. I am not impressed in the least with the food at St. Elmo's. There are way too many other and better restaurants in the city to choose from. I must admit - they do have a great bar.
