not living to the name

St. Elmo's used to be the best steak in Indianapolis, but the last time went I felt like it was overated. The steaks were not tender at all and the strong horseradish in the cocktail sauce is begining to become overkill. The service was not great either. It used to be great, but I think I can find a better steak at Outback Steakhouse or a similar place.

St.Elmos the legend has died.
By jcole68569 on 11/04/2004
For years St.Elmo's served fantastic Steaks, large prime cuts of beef, large shrimp, huge salads all included in the meal. The corporate america purchased this great small business legend. Steaks are smaller, they substitute Choice beef, reduced sized of the shrimp, salads, potatoes, soup is no alacarte. The current ownership has destroyed an Indiana institution. Luckily Harry, Izzy and Jeff built the name and for a time St. Elmo's will ride on the legend they created. To the current owners "Shame on You" I used to eat here at least once per month with clients. Now I avoid your place like the plauge and advise people 'it ain't what it used to be.

newcomer disappointed

St. Elmos was a BIG let down. The Filet wasn't tender, the Veal Chop was fatty, French Fried Prawns overcooked & tough, Rib Eye Steak was thin. High end pricing for lack luster food. VERY average and NOT worth the time and expense.
