Located in the highbrow district of downtown Jackson and situated just across from the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Elite Restaurant makes good use of its name. The quaint, old-time restaurant has the look and feel of days gone by and is a popular dining spot for the high culture crowd. However, despite its cosmopolitan surroundings, the service is far from pretentious. In fact, the homestyle food is about as unaffected as cuisine can get, and still remains the best around.

Weird Ladies Room
By asl1 on 08/29/2007
I know this isn't a review about the food. Although if quaint old-time restaurant means home made and greasy, that's the Elite. What I found to be strange is the Ladies Room: two seats, no partition!! Has the MS Health Department seen this???

The Elite restaurant is a Jackson landmark where politicians, business folk and and casual diners all mingle. Multiple generations can be found on a weekend night enjoying comfortable food that is like eating with family. The house dressing is great on the crackers, the tea glasses are those little cafe glasses that ensure the waitress is never far and the trademark veal cutlet with creamy gravy has never failed. If you are in town do not miss the opportunity to dine at one of Jackson's iconic eateries. It is not fancy but it never fails to satisfy.

The food is good. This is a great place for a date or to take a friend to just talk. The rolls (bread) are really good. I would recommend this restaurant, Dennery's, Walthall, Hilton, or Crown Plaza Restaurant for a date. Jackson is small. There are other great restaurants on the county line (at County Line Road).

Terrible service
By dcyates on 02/18/2007
This is one of those local places where if you aren't a regular, you don't get served. We waited for over 30 minutes for water and silverware and for our order to be taken while regular customers who came in after us had their orders taken, got their food and finished. They need to serve ALL their customers
