Metro   

If you go on Saturday night it is awesome and it can be fun. But, I have been some others night and it is just no fun. But for all these people saying they do not like the music. What does it matter, just get out there after a couple shots and get on it!

I'm a former bar manager from South Florida who's new to Jacksonville, but it's amazing to me how such a big and nice club can be so poorly run. Friday nights, they let the under 21s in free and charge their drinking customers $5.00 cover. No wonder there's less than 50 people in the place. Wake up! The hillbilly music in the stripper bar has got to go. Who wants to see, a man shaking his stuff to Coal Miner's Daughter? The music in the disco is also tired and overplayed. The crowd seems to stand around with their hands in their pockets because their bored stiff. It's time to get rid of the pissy old Manager and bring in somebody who can turn the place around. It has great potential.

The Metro was opened in 1992 by the late John Owens, a prominent local businessman. The club is the largest "gay bar" in this part of the country. Perhaps too large for the scattered and fragmented gay community of Jacksonville. There are six seperate bar areas offering a variety of tepid entertainment. Saturday night is the only time all six rooms are open. Although quite popular in its early years, the Metro suffered from poor management and general decline in the late 1990s. The new owners have tried to breath life back into the old gal, but sadly the Metro has deteriorated into a semi-straight bar for social rejects who are simply too weird to get into respectable clubs. However, it's the best Jacksonville has to offer and the Metro does provide good service and festive cocktails if you can tolerate the disgusting crowd.

The Metro is just plain ole "ood" for being a club in Jacksonville (the bible belt of the South); maybe if it would try and have more promotions for Saturday nights not Fridays (Give up guys Friday belongs to the Third Turd)and advertise to the South then maybe it would be well known. Try having Circuit Parties with te Best DJs visit to the best Entertainers. Try having some spice in yourlife. If you asked the rest of the community I bet they would agree. If you feel this way email the Metro and tell them to improve the nightlife for the gay community. Lets make Jacksonville....... Orlando or even South Beach.
