Take in the exposed brick walls, vaulted copper ceilings and funky furniture. Consider the hipster clientele and staff. Then sample the French/Mediterranean cuisine. For a moment your senses may momentarily forget they are in Jacksonville, Fla. and not in Paris or Provence. At Bistro Aix, chef Tom Gray and owners have created a cozy yet forward-thinking eatery that will satisfy foodies and trendsetters alike. The fare -- prepared in an open kitchen -- features seafood, pastas, oven-grilled pizzas and grilled entrees prepared with French- Med touches such as tomatoes, fennel, garlic and pasta. Favorites include the calamari appetizer, roast chicken with wild mushrooms and fresh fish specials. The menu has plenty of lighter options (grilled, seasoned with broth) as well as hearty (creamy pastas, au gratins). For dessert, choose from scrumptious tarts and decadent chocolate cakes -- the dessert menu varies.Bistro Aix also features an extensive wine list to complement your dining experience. For lunch or dinner, you can get away with a petite bill if you stick with the pizzas, but otherwise the menu is a bit pricey -- and worth it. But before you lament over your bill, consider the California couple who paid $10,000 for a private six-course meal prepared by culinary master Tom Gray in a charity auction. You can get a taste of what they craved, for about 1/1000th of the cost.

Disappointing
By jaqatkins on 02/08/2008
We've tried Bistro Aix three times since it opened, but never again. The staff is rude, our orders were lost or incorrect each time, and the pricing is placed well beyond the quality of the dining experience. The idea of customer service seems lost to the manager. Actually, these problems seem to have infected most of the restaurants in San Marco. Maybe they've become a little too impressed with their location. If you've driven through the area on a Saturday evening lately, you'll have noticed many more open parking spaces . . . . . We've been enjoying Roy's and Tento's at the beach lately. Yes, still pricey, but throughly enjoyable!

Excellent Place/Atmosphere
By manuelb1 on 08/28/2007
This is still one of the top 3 restaurants in Jax. The food is superb and the atmosphere is great! No other restaurant in Jax has such a renowned Chef as Bistro's Tom Gray who has garnered countless National accolades and has been featured in National publications. The restaurant itself won a national award just last year.

Questionable
By frankandtress on 05/23/2005
Food was just ok. Service was very slow and uninterested. Doesnt seem to know what type of resturant it wants to be. Have tried 3 times. Did not get order correct any of the three.
