The flagship restaurant of Jacksonville's most renowned chef, Matthew Medure, boasts four-star and four-diamond ratings from Mobil and AAA. The menu, which changes daily, mingles Middle Eastern, Asian, Mediterranean and even Deep South influences. The chef insists on organically grown produce and prefers meat from boutique farms. Past menus have included coriander-crusted Scottish salmon with wilted Spinach as an entree and wild salmon tartare as an appetizer. Everything is served a la carte, and portions are smaller than you might expect. Resplendent with polished bronze accents and original terrazzo floors, Matthew's claims to have been modeled after European cafes. But you're more likely to feel transplanted to chi-chi New York by the ambience. Some diners complain about too-close tables, but you can rest assured you'll be rubbing elbows (literally) with Jacksonville's most stylish set. Outdoor seating by the fountain on the immaculately landscaped terrace is a sure bet on a sunny day. -- Terry Ward

Amazing

Living in South Beach Miami for so long, I have been spoiled with wonderful dining experiences. My guest and I dined here and had the Tastings of both the food and wine. It was amazing! Superb! Only those of great taste can appreciate the portions and the beauty of the food served. I will dine there again. Great place to take a first date or for an anniversary.

First Time in Jacksonville

I am a food server in Atlanta, and have been a food server in NYC/Atlanta now for over a decade. That said, I appreciate good service and Matthew's server appropriately named Matthew was fantastic. His suggestions and pairing of our food with wines was spot on, and his manner in which he served us was friendly and prompt. The food was EXCELLENT. Yes, I can see how we as Americans could find the portions "small", but being 6ft 4 and 230, I had no problem with what they served me. The ambiance was average, but the aesthetics of the food made up for the lack of decor. I will go back again in a heartbeat.

Matthew you are superb. The ambience is reserved as it should be. A large number of the reviews here reflect the 1950's cadillac driving, smoking, kind of people who still inhabit the NE fla area. We won't mention who they probably vote for. They are not making up these reviews, they really believe they know good cusine. You just won't get five stars from these people until you slop double portions on their plates or underlie the lamb shank with mountains of mashed potatoes! It's sad that such a potentially beautiful place, with a beautiful natural river, beautiful sunsets, has such sadly unbeautiful minds. Hopefully there is a core than understands a fine experience who will support you.
