The Peanut is a locally legendary lair of libation. The Peanut's six metro locations are famous for hot wings, cold beer and a comfy-dive atmosphere. But this famous legume's new downtown nighttime nut, the Cashew, is not what many may expect. Gone are the wings and the writing on the wall. The Cashew is a sleeker, more contemporary drinkatorium that hosts happy-hour suits and Crossroad artists. A small menu of sandwiches and soups plays second fiddle to the towering liquor shelf. The Cashew does not technically offer outdoor seating, though large open windows provide a panoramic view of the downtown skyline and front-row views of Grand Street traffic. The Cashew has also embraced train traffic, as ''train shots'' are taken with each passing of the downtown delivery trains. And though they won't give you wings, the Cashew will give you a unique downtown drink spot.

What a great space for a party!

We held our class reunion in the 3rd floor party room of 2000 Grand. I don't think I would have changed a thing. With the garage doors open and the best view of the Kansas City skyline, our party had that urban chic feel. The service very friendly. I would definitely recommend the 3rd floor at 2000 Grand for a party, reception, or reunion.

The bar may have a cool atmosphere in the summer but in January the large garage doors are closed and the lighting is harsh and too bright. All of this could be overlooked if the Cashew had more to offer, unfortunately the drinks are extremely expensive ($5 for a Boulevard beer, the brewery is about 1 mile away and the beer usually cost $3 at other bars) and the food is unremarkable. Chips and salsa included Tostidos from a bag and a 4 ounce serving of jar salsa for the bargain price of 7 bucks. Oh and happy hour ends at 6, that is not a very happy hour to me.

The Cashew is a "don't miss" spot when you are in K.C.. The open air doors gives it a Chicago feel. A classy mix of all types makes it a great place to people watch. If your timing is right, check it out on a "First Friday" (the first Friday of every month) that's when all the galleries in the Crossroads District are open and thousands of people from all over the city are walking around viewing the local art. Like the Peanut, there is not a bad thing on the menu. The Cashew is definitely worth the trip.
