1924 Main transforms art into a savory dining experience. Located in the historical Rieger Hotel building, 1924 Main is a quintessential Crossroads neighborhood restaurant offering a lunch and dinner menu that showcase our affinity for taste quality over quantity. Alongside his sous chef, Quillan Glynn, Chef/Owner Rob Dalzell's sophisticated creations are prepared to perfection with the freshest, seasonal ingredients and paired with our selection of top wines. 1924 Main is a celebration of the palate. We reinvent our menus seasonally to ensure that we offer spontaneously seasonal cuisine-it is quality matched only by the elegant yet unpretentious ambiance of our dining space. 2 or 3 Course Lunch (Monday - Friday) and Dinner (Monday - Saturday). Ala carte prices are available also.

why is this place popular?

I have been curious about 1924 Main since moving to KC 1 year ago. I had heard how great it is, but every time I looked at the menu online nothing appealed to me. Tonight my husband and I finally went. Come on KC, this place is horrible. The floor and skylights are filthy, the silverware. plates and glassware cheap, the wine list boring, the wine pairings terrible, the food overinspired.. The price is not a bargain. For $35 I had 1 bad and 2 mediocre courses. The thai melon soup with curried crab had the consistency of baby vomit ( baveuse = good omelette, bad crab salad) and had no flavor other than curry. The ribeye was a paper thin slice (cut on the grain). The parmesean potatoes were delicious, but the sauce, described by our nice waitress as (a sort of reduction) was gluey, salty and well, yucky. The trio of ice cream was rock hard, crystallized and flavorless. I was starving when I arrived, and slightly hungry when I left. I would have ordered another dish, but nothing appealed. Note. if the plates are so small that you have to order 4, it's no longer a "bargain'. When I think of the fabulous restaurants that KC has to offer (we have 3 James Beard award winners here), I know that I will calculate the "real" cost of dining out and chose a restaurant that provides incredible food, service, wine, ambience and amenities for about the same price of a rip off like 1924 Main.

CHIC, ELEGANT, CHARMING

I have traveled the world (51 countries explored)… and I lived in Kansas City 15 years before I discovered this well kept secret. WOW! I’m so proud to live in a city with such culture as demonstrated by 1924. It is a lovely diamond in the rough, with the best service, fabulous wine selection, and food so elegantly plated and so delicious it will dizzy your palate. Their menu changes every week and it is simple, pick a beginning, a middle and an end. If you love to try new wines, they actually pair the wines for you with the courses if you would like. I’m so glad I got my reservation in for tonight. I’m going to enjoy a world-class dinner and the ‘FIRST FRIDAY” in the Crossroads District. Bon appetite mes amis! Dieu bénit!

good, but not worth it

I'd rather pay for food than a pretty looking underfilled plate. small and expensive portions for dinner although tasty. nice staff. Fine dining should be more dining and less wasted money trying to look cool.
