In the world of Kansas City clubs and nightlife, few venues succeed as handsomely as Club NV. From the well-manicured exterior, streamlined interior design and private parking lot to the free coat check and entertaining blend of music videos and comedy clips in Studio@NV Video Bar, the city's downtown hot spot gives other clubs in the metro a run for their money -- and their legions of satisfied patrons. The main floor is divided into two distinct areas: Studio@NV, the video bar that opens each afternoon for happy hour, and the roomy NV Dance Club. While NV's primary target demographic is the gay crowd (Thursday night go go boys, anyone?), the mix on weekend nights is a blur of the rhythmic rainbow coalition. You'll find straight twenty- and thirtysomething couples sandwiched between drag queens, lesbian duos and gay men of all sizes and shapes. When it gets too hot inside, the rooftop deck on the second floor offers fresh air and new faces. NV's hospitable generosity extends to happy hour in Studio@NV Video Bar, featuring half-price martinis from 4:30PM to 8:30PM and the bar's signature drink, the 50-oz. Karen Walker Martini, named for the curvaceous, cocktail-friendly 'Will & Grace' character.

DO NOT GO TO THIS CLUB!
By tyrwri on 06/23/2008
One night my friends and i ventured out to club NV in Kansas City Mo, after drive from across town to get there we walk up to get into line, waited about ten minutes only to get to the door and learn you cant have jeans with wholes in the so we let our dates go on in while we went all the way back across town so my friend could change his pants, so we get back maybe fifteen or twenty minutes later and there is another guy at the door and he told us we cant get in, when asked why he informed us that because we didnt have girls with us so i nicely informed him that we let our girls go in and he said well then you better call them and tell them to come out and get you so yea i called and told them to come outside, meanwhile about six white dudes walk up in a group and get right in WHATS UP WITH THAT? So im starting to think because we are Black, and im never one to pull the race card ever and i know that probally 80% of the club is black people but thats what it felt like, anyway our girls finally come out and tell him (oh and by the way this is the owner of the club), that we are with them and he said I DONT KNOW WHY THEY CALLED U they still cant get in so by this time im so mad im ready to leave i have never been so disrespected in my life but the girls really wanted to stay so me being the gentleman that i am i was like well if you want to stay then you better get us in, anyway they knew some people who worked there and they sent some gude out and then he said i had to pay him $40 and stupid me i did it, I will never go to that club again worse place i have ever been and from now on i will stay in johnson county where i belong!

Nice club but staff needs work
By gxxdfella on 11/02/2007
I've been in NV several times. Once in the club I usually have a great time. But there have been several times that I haven't made it into the club. usually having something to do with the ambiguous, non-posted, ever-changing dress code. One time the bouncer decided that the shoes a friend of mine was wearing were sneakers when they we dress shoes with a design on them. Then he basically told us he'd let us in if we paid him $40. Another time I was with a date and was dressed in a button up shirt with a nice pair of jeans. I had the customary fashion cuff in the jeans and was told that I could have my jeans cuffed. So I bent over and uncuffed my jeans and was then told I couldn't make corrections to my attire while in line! Now if there was a posted dress code i wouldn't have a problem. But it seems that the bouncer decides what he'll let in based on how his day went, how much money he needs for bills, and whether or not he likes you when you get to the door. On top of that but the second night...I watched as several people were allowed to enter wearing sneakers and t-shirts which are supossedly not allowed. sounds like the staff runs the place how they want which can be categorized as poorly... Excellent club, very good crowd, good music, poor staff, poor rules or lack there of..overall rating of Good.

Not my kind of club, but many

are being unfair to the bouncers. I worked as a bouncer at NV from time to time. I really hated working there, not because of the guys I worked with but because i had to deal with ridiculous patrons. First off, I am a college educated individual who has a masters degree and worked as a bouncer for extra money. As far as the other comments go... 1) One of the bouncers job is to enforce a dress code. Some vary how they enforce it but they have to enforce it nonetheless. It's hard to say what your reaction to their demands might of been but it's very possible that they misread your body language. 2) Not all, but most of the asians that go to that club go in large groups. What had likely happened was that the whole group(Of friends, not asians) had to be kicked out in order to make sure that no one would start a fight again. Often both people are kicked out, you don't always know who started what. BTW there are always large crowds of asians that go there so I doubt they feel extremely discriminated. 3)Sometimes bouncers kick out the wrong people. Again I hated working there, you are armed with nothing but a radio for back-up and your wits. Is it possible to make mistakes? Yes it is. 4) As far as making people wait outside for their coats. NV's owner is notorious for waiting til almost 3am to shut off the music. What many people don't realize is that a 3am club doesn't really mean open til 3. What it means is that the establishment is allowed to sell liquor til 3am. If there are people who aren't working there and are on the premise without a liquor liscence the establishment can be fined. So if you have a bunch of people in a club at 2:55 am, you have to be kind of rude to get them out of there. I'm sorry you had to wait but it happens.

Weekends at NV
By missladymonroe on 08/01/2007
Depending on what room you're in the music will be good. The first room you come into has the "VIP" in it. I must say the VIP is full of non VIP's and I found it too crowed. VIP there is not worth paying for a $200 bottle that the non VIP people are going to try and drink. (However, VIP is better because you have a place to sit) The second room tends to have more bartenders so it's easier to get a drink and it's colder in there so that's nice... I like the top deck the most. Great music up there and at night it feels good to be outdoors. Their go-go dancers are not very cute and the bouncers seem to be really cool if you tip them or if you are one of the meat heads that frequent (no offence just stating the obvious). Overall this can be a nice place to go as long as you get there after 11pm.
