Dos Hombres   

Midwesterners love their Tex-Mex fare. And when you go to a Mexican restaurant in Kansas City, you pretty much know what you're getting: some beans and some rice, a mound of cheese, meat, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. But at Dos Hombres in the River Market, you might be a little surprised by what you find. Located in a renovated and structurally sound 135-year-old building, Dos Hombres overwhelms your environmental expectations. With bright oak floors, exposed brick walls, towering ceilings and a monstrous front bar, Dos Hombres sets high expectations before you even sit down. And while it does get loud, the space is so drastically different (so much more sophisticated) than the average Mexican restaurant that you don't even notice. The menu is much the same as it was ten years ago when Dos Hombres operated two other local locations, offering fajitas, tacos, burritos, combo platters and the ever-present Tex-Mex hamburger. The food is generously portioned, consistently prepared and everything a Midwesterner wants from Mexican food.
