These days, it seems the young, hip Plaza crowd has a yen for Pan-Pacific food. Kona Grill is popular for lunch, dinner and drinks. Kona is also the place to be on the Plaza for its afternoon and late-night happy hours: Appetizers and featured drinks are half-price. Perhaps the key to the restaurant's popularity is its variety. Kona's menu includes salads, sushi, steaks and seafood -- and there are great noodle dishes for those who aren't afraid of carbs. Feeling like fish? One of the best main dishes is the lemongrass-crusted swordfish, which is served with a coconut-curry sauce and white-cheddar mashed potatoes. Choosing chicken? Try one of Kona's signature dishes, the macadamia-nut chicken, which also comes with the mashed potatoes. In need of beef? Kona serves steaks -- choose between a prime filet and rib eye. Crazy for carbs? Have pad thai or thai peanut chicken noodles. Pizza's your pleasure? The Kona comes with sausage, mushrooms, roma tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Despite its mainly 20- and 30-something crowd, Kona is kid-friendly, particularly at lunch. The children's menu even includes a "little surfer's sushi sampler" -- one piece each of crab and shrimp sushi with a California roll. Belly up to the sushi bar, get lost looking at the seawater aquarium, marvel at the open kitchen or soak in the trendy, yet casual, atmosphere. Either way, you'll feel hipper than thou.

Great Place & Great Food
By tkristianm on 06/10/2007
We always enjoy our meals at the Grapevine. The service is always very friendly and prompt. I've tried just about everything on the menue and have never been disappointed. When in doubt try the create a combo selections. This way you can sample more than one item at a time. They are all good. My grandkids love to sit next to the fish tanks and watch for "Nemo". It's a great place for the whole familt

a great experience

Kona is truly a great sushi bar. All of the chefs do their original training either in Japan or in Scottsdale with several Japanese sushi masters. The waitstaff are friendly and inviting and the quality of the food is fantastic!

This place is probably the worst place to eat sushi ever! Servers are rude, managers even ruder and the macadamia nut chicken tastes like dirt! It used to be way better when competent people ran that place but now all I want to do is run for the door! Too many Plaza posers and too many cliche menu items!!
