Though the Hotel Phillips has been a downtown Kansas City landmark for decades, the hotel's restaurants have not been as long-lived. Unlike some of the restaurants that came before, the latest incarnation seems grand enough to serve as the dining anchor for this fabulous Art Deco hotel. Phillips Chophouse promises ''steaks, chops, style,'' and it lives up to its word. The steaks are wood-fired and accompanied by delicious sides. Chops come in all varieties -- wild boar, veal, lamb and venison. Start with a crisp salad and finish with velvety creme brulee, and you've created a delightful meal. For a before- or after-dinner drink, consider stopping by the hotel's 12 Baltimore Caf. And if you really want to prolong your stay at the Hotel Phillips, you can always reserve a room in advance. -- Anna Foote

excellent staff and food

i loved this place! the food was excellent and the staff was really good. it's located right downtown and the atmosphere is lovely. when we sat down the manager al came over and made us feel welcomed. the food was very wonderful and the price was right.

A total surprise

We had not expected a super dining experience having eaten at ALL of the "reported best restaurants," but this place was really super. Excellent food, and the presentation was well executed. Not the least expensive but--for a super night out with class!
