Known as 'The Gold Standard of Kansas City Steakhouses'. Independently owned, Plaza III has operated on the Country Club Plaza since 1963. USDA Prime aged cuts of Midwestern Beef, fresh fish and lobster make up our award winning menu. We feature a Wine Spectator 'Award of Excellence' wine list. Over 500 selections. We present Live Kansas City Jazz on Fridays & Saturdays. We offer 9 different private dining rooms for groups of 8 to 200. The American Royal room or the Wine Cellars are very popular for meetings, weddings, or special occasions.

Not worth it, excpet the jazz
By tkristianm on 06/10/2007
My husband and I dined here twice in the last 9 months, downstairs because we wanted to hear the jazz (Allen Munroe trio was playing). The steaks are good, the food is okay, however, the service was splotchy, at best. Our first time was okay, however, the second time in November, our waiter introduced himself and welcomed us to the Plaza Two (maybe he was a little nervous)....drinks at the bar are good, however, I would only come here to have drinks at the bar only if the Allen Munro trio was playing, and then head over to the Capitol Grille in the Plaza. My husband and I dined there last week and immediately upon walking in the door, it was heads and tails above the Plaza. Go to the Capitol Grille and ask for George Vial to be your waiter. He let my husband and I transition to the bar/lounge after our delightful meal, and said he would find us there to bring us our bill, instead of wait at the table. Not only did he find us in their busy lounge, he got us a drink from the bar (since the bartenders were a litte busy that night), lit up my husband's cigar, and continued to assist us as needed. Bottom line -- go to the Capitol Grille -- my husband and I are kicking ourselves for not discovering it sooner!

Phenomenal

wonderful experience all together. The service was impeccable. The food...what can I say. The filet melted in my mouth. I didn't think it was possible to have such tender and succulant beef!!! We would recommend to anyone wanting to experience fine dining at its best in Kansas City.

Its a disgrace

If this is what Kansas City has to offer in Fine Dining Steakhouses, then I will continue to cook at home. Their service leaves much to be desired. They are unprofessional in all aspects of proper service from beginning to end. Their wine list , although having won the Excellence in wine award from the prestigious Wine Spectator magazine, Anyone who reads that magazine faithfully can pull off that. What is a Wine steward by the way? Someone who stocks the wine? Im sorry If I am paying that much for a steak I expect a Sommlier at the very least to pour my wine. You would think they would have more pride.

Not as good as it should be.

Anyway, I went back 3 times...just thought that maybe we was in the bad luck and didn't get a good server/service. However, it's getting worse. I recommend "The Majestic" instead for the best steak....but don't expect the interior will be as nice as anything on the plaza.
