Housed on the site of the former Club Utopia, the Empire Ballroom combines the swanky lounge with the sweaty dance club. Guests enter through a dimly-lit corridor to a room full of vibrant reds and browns and a massive crystal chandelier, which hovers over the dance floor. In contrast, candlelit rooms and private cabanas overlook the dance floor, allowing a spot to kick back as well. The locals-friendly club, which opened in late September 2005, hopes to become a destination not only for club kids but live music lovers, and is bringing more and more live bands to town. It's also home to the hair band Metal Skool, a tribute act who became a sensation on the Sunset Strip with its '80s rock anthems. The atmosphere is of a decadent club, with a friendly feel.
