Hootie & the Blowfish's Shady Grove Lounge   

Comfort meets retro chic at the Shady Grove Lounge, a curious morph of the hotel bar, sports lounge and rec center. Funky furnishings and decor highlight the lounge's upper deck -- colorful lampshades, a mini-bowling trailer and a fantastic state license-plate sculpture add a whimsical touch -- and plasma TVs are recessed into the walls and above the bar. Tasty beers and hearty burgers and sandwiches mix with more frou frou fare like lemon drops and Almond Joy martinis. Happy hour is a great time to get all the kitsch for half the cash. In 2005, Shady Grove was ''adopted'' by bluesy pop band Hootie & the Blowfish, who have made the place their own with tons of band memorabilia and regular concert visits throughout the year. Lead singer Darius Rucker promises he and boys will be hanging out there whenever they're in town -- which should be often since they've all purchased condos in the Silverton's upcoming 80-acre expansion.
