There's still magic in the name, though version 2.0 of Studio 54 is located 3,000 miles west of the original, and its retro-style interior bears only a passing resemblance to the 42nd St.playground in New York City that was the place to be seen at the height of the disco era. But like its predecessor, the Studio 54 in the MGM Grand resort has state-of-the-art sound, video and lighting, plus a little disco mixed in with the standard techno and house music. Live dancers, wall walkers, smoke machines, confetti cannons and busy DJs keep the party atmosphere upbeat. With 22,000 square feet, four dance floors, several bars and semi-private lounges with leather couches, there's plenty of room to dance or people-watch. You might even see a few graying folks stare wistfully at the original moon that hangs over the main dance floor or the photographs of celebrities from the first Studio 54. EDEN (Erotically Delicious Entertainers Night), held every Tuesday, is the new club's attempt to match the hedonism of its predecessor.
