You go up, you go down. That's as good a description as any of what happens on the Big Shot, a one-minute round-trip journey of approximately 160 feet. What makes this event a thrill ride as opposed to, say, a ride in an elevator, is that you're outside, you're moving at 45 mph and you begin the journey at the top of the Stratosphere Tower, a mere 1,081 feet above terra firma. It takes just two seconds to rocket up the tower's spindle under a force of four Gs. At the very top, you may feel a moment of weightlessness as your posterior attempts to defy gravity and float off the seat. The ride back down is gentler, but you have two more round-trips along the mast before returning to the launch pad. You don't necessarily have to be a big shot to ride it, but you do have to be at least 48 inches tall.
