The Flamingo Hilton is torn between acknowledging its heritage as the house that Bugsy built and suppressing its colorful but notorious past. Years of renovations and expansions have obliterated any trace of the original Flamingo Hotel built by gangster Bugsy Siegel, but his name lives on at Bugsy's Celebrity Theatre, a not-so-intimate lounge with a bullet-riddled logo that winks at the property's history. The modest room done in tropical pink and green, had aspirations of grandeur during the five-year run of the Broadway musical hit Forever Plaid (prompting the name change from "Lounge" to "Celebrity Theatre"), but with Plaid now a memory, the room has returned to its humbler two-drink minimum roots, at least until another prestigious show moves in.
