Rate and Write a Review While it doesn't exactly bubble with the spirit of San Francisco,The Golden Gate is worth popping by, if only for novelty's sake. Built in 1906, it's the city's oldest hotel. The place is, more or less, one of those countless casinos with a themed facade on the outside and as many gaming machines as they can cram on the inside. But it's also noteworthy as the site of Sin City's first telephone. The neon sign and painted exterior are throwbacks to Vegas' old dusty days as a Western town. Now surrounded by modernity, the hotel's vintage-style rooms overlook the neon overload that is Fremont Street Experience, a collection of stores, bars and restaraunts blanketed by a multi-million-bulb, multimedia canopy.
