Blue Plate Special: Hulking slabs of pancakes, fluffy eggs and the infamous Dutch Baby. The Dish: The Original Pancake House started flipping cakes and cracking eggs in the '50s, a time when food ingredients were fresh and creamy, dishes were made from scratch and careful attention was paid to every single detail. Today, not much has changed except that the concept has taken off, and there are franchises all over the country serving up the same authentic homemade fare. Batters are whipped up daily, pure whipping cream and high-score butter and eggs are brought in from local sources, and cooking techniques still hold true to the roots. The signature apple pancake is a favorite, loaded with cinnamon and baked to crispy perfection, while the Dutch Baby is an air-filled, oven-baked ensemble served with whipped butter and powdered sugar. Omelettes and egg dishes are fluffy and filling, especially when served with the scrumptious special recipe sausage. The Atmosphere: Like most wonderful breakfast spots, the atmosphere is sunny, energetic, full of sizzling sounds from the kitchen and fresh coffee aromas wafting through the air. Super-clean standards keep the space light and airy, and many locations have fireplaces to help take the chill off the winter air. A nice mix of families, retired couples and business folks gather to catch up on the latest news over a savory breakfast and a warm cup of coffee. Lines are usually the norm on weekends, so be prepared.

The Sacred Omelet!
By Stark65 on 09/29/2008
I don't know how they do it, but the omelets are this dome of goodness and perfection. The people who say the portions are small must be relatives of Paul Bunyon or need to go on a diet because I can eat alot and I have never finished a breakfast the The OPH. The Eggs Benedict are to die for. My husband and I live in NY and we first discovered OPH in California and now make a point when we go to Las Vegas to have breakfast there at least 3 times during the week. I wish we had one here. As it is we go to NJ every couple of months just for breakfast. Do not hesitate to try it. You will not be disappointed!

BEST IN TOWN
By DORISDUSCHEN on 07/06/2008
My husband and I have been going to OPH since it opened and haven't been able to find a better place for breakfast. The German Pancake is fabulous and a work of art, as are the big fluffy omelets. I'd rather pay a little more for the best, and OPH isn't anymore than IHOP and so much better. Very friendly and efficient servers and hostesses too.

OVERPRICED
By Chalfinma on 07/03/2008
Over-rated chain. Over-cooked small portions...everything's extra. They serve their puny portions on huge plates...what's that all about? NEWS FLASH: The Mega Cafe...AWESOME!!! They're where Denny's used to be on the SW corner of Pecos and Russell :-)
