Every Las Vegas casino has a secluded corner intended as the exclusive domain for high rollers, where the carpet is thicker, the chandeliers are shinier, and the cocktail waitresses are on speed dial. The Palms has an area like that, and they also have The Mint, a funky two-level retro lounge also geared towards big bettors, but with seating areas on the first floor, that allow the nickel-playing general public to relax and enjoy the rarified atmosphere without spending a fortune. Where most upscale gambling parlors take their cue from James Bond in Dr. No, The Mint looks like something youd see in a Matt Helm flick with Dean Martin and Ann-Margret. Its colorful and classy, but not stuffy or intimidating. Typical of the Palms, where they want everyone to enjoy the party. David Hofstede
