He's not the subject of Billy Joel's 'Piano Man' classic, but Elton John might as well be. The British pop icon has tickled the ivories since the '60s, bringing his versatile songwriting, his eccentric persona and, er, cleverly chosen eyeglasses to fans across generational and cultural lines -- and selling more than 200 million albums in the process. The Man: After shucking his terminally geeky given name, Reginald Dwight (can you blame him?), John's versatility kept him among pop's highest echelon for three generations. In fact, the singer landed a certifiable Top 40 hit for 26 years straight, a feat even Michael Jackson, the self-proclaimed King of Pop, can't boast. The Songs: Elton John's catalog is as ubiquitous as pop-up ads on the Internet. We all know the early classics: 'Rocket Man,' 'Saturday Night's All Right for Fightin',' 'Bennie and the Jets.' But John's legacy extends far beyond even the Grammy realm. He's contributed more to the pop lexicon than just about everybody but The Beatles or Elvis Presley, including penning songs for Disney flicks ('Lion King,' 'The Road to El Dorado') and Broadway blockbusters ('Aida'). His secret? A versatility that's as at home playing tender, acoustic piano numbers, pure pop or pounded-out bluesy bawlers. Still Standing: After his initial, much-ballyhooed residency at Caesars Palace, the Rocket Man and his famed Red Piano agreed to stay in Sin City through 2008.

Elton John in Vegas Nov 2007
By plhay on 12/14/2007
What a vile evening. The backdrop videos were puerile and unpleasant with no relevance whatsoever to the music. A number of people walked out, many around us had their eyes closed in order to try to enjoy the music without the background video unpleasantness. If Elton had set out to destroy his reputation he could have done no better than this. His music has been a joyous part of my life since the late 1960s - now that pleasure is tarnished by this trashy evening. He must have approved all the content, so it really does make you ask yourself what kind of man he really is.

Elton Red Piano Tour 10/19/07
By fanguer on 11/20/2007
If I had to chose one word to describe this over- priced, piece of garbage concert it would be HORRIBLE! First I have been a fan of Elton Johns music for 30 plus years. I have seen him one other time in my life when he performed in our home town 10 years ago. My wife and I were looking forward to seeing him in a great accoustal venue. We have been to see Celine at Ceassars and knew the place was awesome. First , Elton opened the performance with a swipe at the media's negativity, in which I agreed with, and how we all need to focus on postive things in our world. What a hypocrite!! It was all down hill from here. The show used the large screens behind him and his band to promote such things as homosexuality, cocaine usage, nudity, nudity with cocaine snorting off naked people, women being slapped around, and a pair of inflatable breast that come out of the wall near the end of the performance. What is positive about all that?? Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or your money on this!!!

Red Piano Tour Las Vegas
By showsucked on 10/20/2007
My wife and I just got back from Las Vegas after seeing Sir Elton John on October16, 2007. As one of Elton John's biggest fans, I can not tell you how disappointed we were that night. We had waited a lot of years to see Elton in concert and we left Caesars Palace with a really bad taste in our mouths. Altough Elton's songs were well played the show itself stunk. After paying over $500 I would have once liked to see him actually play the piano. Everyone already knows that Elton John is gay ,however, the cheap homo sexual promoting videos that were played could have easily been replaced with a close up of Elton actually playing the piano. I don't think that a lot of people appreciated the scenes of young homo sexual boys snorting cocaine off of the buttox of another young male. Unless you were up close and on the backside of the piano you didn't have tha opportunity to actually see him play anything. I realize that the stage was constructed for the Celine Dionne tour and staging may be difficult but what about turning the piano on a pedistal or having a Red White and Blue piano on different parts of the stage. He complained that Celine was too thin and he was too fat. Perhaps by walking 40 feet to another piano he could satisfy his high paying patrons and give them a little of what they all came there to see. At a million dollars per performance there should have been a little more bling. How about a partial orchestra? The best part of Elton's show was that I bought his "Elton 60 Video" At least we got to see him play in that. Do yourself a favor. Buy the video and when in Vegas go see the Phantom or Cirque du Soleil instead.

My wife and I went t see Elton in February for our 25th anniversary and then again for her birthday in July. We had a great time both times. The show visually and musically rocks! It's not a family show, since the visuals feature a lot of T&A. This isn't the Lion King, thank you very much!
