Ferraro's Italian Restaurant   

They almost made Ferraro's a little too fancy when they moved it from its original West Sahara location to its current home on West Flamingo. It took locals awhile to realize that only the surroundings had been upgraded -- the prices had not. Unfortunately, by the time they came back, the place had built upon its popularity with tourists, particularly conventioneers, and now it's harder than ever to get a table.A stunning glassed-in wine cellar displaying an award-winning collection greets guests inside the entrance. Roman columns, recessed lighting, an abundance of plants, striking black banquettes, white linen tablecloths, plus shelves with an array of large bottles of wine and jars of marinated vegetables contribute to the warm, intimate atmosphere. The menu features the family recipes of owner Gino Ferraro, such as panzerotti (potato croquettes with roasted red peppers) and carciofo ripeno (artichoke stuffed with seasoned bread crumbs), plus outstanding osso buco braised in Burgundy sauce. Despite the opulent trappings, many entrees, including the marvelous chicken dishes (sorrento, francese, marsala, angelo and parmigiana), are priced under $20 and come with vegetables, risotto of the day and a choice of soup or salad. -- David Hofstede
