The result is one of the city's most unique and eye-catching structures, and for a town like Las Vegas, that's saying something. It sounds impressive to say the Luxor is the biggest pyramid ever raised in the Western Hemisphere, but then there's probably not much competition for the title outside of Egyptian restaurants and a few miniature golf courses. More than 2,500 hotel rooms rest beneath its apex, along with the world's largest atrium -- big enough to stack nine Boeing 747s. To ride up to the rooms in the pyramid, guests must use an "inclinator," a special elevator that rises at a 39-degree angle. The beam of light that shines from the top of the structure is 40 billion times the candlepower of a normal searchlight. During the day, the sun's reflection on the black glass can create the illusion that the pyramid is made of bronze or gold.
