The oval-shaped Mandalay Bay Events Center is similar in style to the MGM Grand Garden Arena just up the street, but it's a little more upscale, and was designed with more flexibility built in. The 12,000 seats are cloth-upholstered and padded, and have armrests and cup holders, a rarity in an arena this size. Seating is all on one concourse, lined around the top by glassed-in luxury suites. Championship boxing matches and concerts, ranging from Luciano Pavarotti to John Mellencamp, fill most of the event schedule. An acoustically engineered ceiling, with 32 three- way speaker systems mounted on the lower roof steel, adds to the quality of the sound mix. Mandalay Bay's South Strip location helps ease access from the expressway, but be prepared for a traffic jam inside at the "will call" line unless you arrive early
