Once a wasteland of all-you-can eat specials and $1.99 midnight buffets, Vegas is now a town rife with culinary excellence, and you have Wolfgang Puck to thank. When Puck opened Spago in 1992, it started a food revolution. Since then, no restaurant has been consistently better. The menu remains innovative and varied, and most of the prices are reasonable for the quality involved. Though Puck is only occasionally at the restaurant, there's no reason to worry; Chef David Robins, Puck's protege and executive partner, delivers excellent Pacific Rim-seasoned dishes such as roast duck, Rocky Range chicken and roasted Atlantic salmon with fried green tomatoes. Pizzas are what put Spago on the map. The wood-fired oven gives the dough a nice crustiness, and they're still the most popular items on the menu. And if you've got room for dessert, try the warm apple pie with ice cream and caramel sauce. The trio of sorbets is also a delight. If you require something to wash it all down, there's an extensive wine list; make sure to check in with sommelier Luis DeSantos for recommendations. This all adds up to one of the most eclectic menus in the city. This revolution may not be televised, but it certainly looks to be wood-fired.

What a change!
By vegasfnb on 04/15/2007
Spago's hot again -- if you've not been since Eric Klein took over the kitchen, then it's time to go back. He's clearly cleaning out the cobwebs and giving things an extreme makeover cause the old girl's sizzling once more. I've been following this guy since he came to town -- and I am definitely a fan. This is clearly a better showcase for his talents than Fix -- what a waste. And Steve Wynn damn sure didn't deserve him. I'm looking forward to seeing him finally hit his stride here. Keep it up Chef! I met you in the dining room finally last week and was blown away by your tasting menu. Vegas and Wolfgnag are lucky to have you!

Wolfgang Puck's is a crap shoot that I'd rather not gamble on... California lottery has better odds and costs less.

Very Good

Had a lovely lunch at Spago. The service was good, the food was very good and the ambience was typical for Vegas. I too am a professional chef and I could see that a lot of work goes in to their food. Nothing outstanding, but we walked away happy we stopped in. Better food at Cheesecake Factory?? Not a chance!
