Has it really been four decades since Peter Max first burst upon the art world, with his day-glo colors and psychedelic canvases that are as much a part of the '60s counterculture as Woodstock and Chevy vans? Unlike some other relics of the hippie-dippy generation, Max's work has evolved through the years, and is as in demand now as it was when Crosby, Stills and Nash topped the charts. The Art of Peter Max gallery at Caesars Palace showcases the innovative artist's bold, vibrant images created in a variety of media, including oils, acrylics, water colors, finger paints, dyes, pastels, charcoal, pen, multicolored pencils and engravings. More than 100 works are available, including original paintings, drawings and limited-edition prints. Many of the images closely associated with Peter Max are among the collection, from the"cosmic" works of the 1960s to the photo collages, to his oft-reproduced takes on the American flag and the Statue of Liberty.
