While tourists visiting Vegas enjoy the fine French cuisine at Andre's inside the Monte Carlo resort, the city's locals flock to the original Andre's, a downtown bungalow that has remained a bastion of class and elegance even as the surrounding neighborhood wanes. Generally regarded as Southern Nevada's first successful French restaurant, Andre's has been serving gourmet cuisine since 1980. Though the downtown location doesn't have the theme-park trappings of its Monte Carlo offshoot, it's more quiet and romantic, with cozy rooms and alcoves beautifully furnished with the charm of a bygone era.Award-winning restaurateur Andre Rochat has made his reputation with such delicacies as veal sweetbreads and chicken quenelles; roasted Alaskan halibut with chervil beurre blanc; sauteed Muscovy duck breast served with pumpkin flan and huckleberry and foie gras sauces; and oven-roasted domestic rack of lamb with a green lentil ragout with cherry and pistachio baklava. The wine list features domestic and imported selections from a 6,000-bottle cellar.
