Named after the mother of El Cortez owner Jackie Gaughan (who was given the moniker for her penchant for pinching pennies in the early 1900s), Careful Kitty's Cafe serves up the comfort food you'd expect from such a motherly haunt: hot sandwiches, hearty breakfasts available anytime and tasty gravies that accompany almost every dish. Embracing its southwestern locale, the cafe also has a variety of Mexican dishes. Careful Kitty's possesses the typical coffee shop feel, but it's bright and roomy for such a small property. A haven for seniors and folks seeking a great deal, Careful Kitty's offers a slew of specials, most of them from midnight-3PM, including: 8 oz. rib eye dinner or breakfast for $4.25, bacon and sausage with eggs and coffee for $1.75 and a T-bone or prime rib for $5.95.
