Half greasy spoon, half New York City deli, Harrie's Bagelmania boasts one of the city's most popular bagel and lox combos, a clientele of old-time regulars, and a sassy wait staff that greets you with a cheeky grin and asks "What'll it be, hon?" -- just like an old-fashioned movie or 'Alice' re-run. The ample seating area is bordered on one side by a colorful streetscape mural and on the other by the full-service deli counter overflowing with meats, specialty schmears and over a dozen varieties of east-coast style bagels. Some customers beeline straight for the take-out counter, particularly on workdays, but weekends find the tables filled with hungry diners craving a hearty meal. In this place, the phrase "I'll take my regular" could mean anything from fried matzo, rich sour cream blintzes, three-egg omelettes or bagelwiches to Harrie's plentiful lunch sandwich combos: mile-high sandwiches of corned beef, pastrami, salami or New York Steak. And that's just a sampling. Deli-style sides include rib-sticking staples like noodle kugel, knishes, corned beef hash and potato pancakes. Talk about a great hangover cure! They take great care of you. They feed you well. They may ask you if your knee is acting up again since the surgery, or how your son Adam is handling the stormy weather down there in Sarasota.
