Its a wonder of modern architecture that almost all of the Bellagio restaurants offer views of the fountain show in front of the property, yet when you tour the resort inside the rooms are not lined up like some sort of casino restaurant row, a concept much too vulgar for a place this ostentatious. Olives is a casual and surprisingly comfortable Boston import with a patio that overlooks -- you guessed it -- those unavoidable dancing fountains. For travelers on a budget, this is the best option for enjoying the view at a place where the dinner tab wont hit triple digits. Todd English's colorful and comfy space boasts a recent Jeffrey Beers redesign that emphasizes natural hues, dark woods and distressed leather. Romantic tables for two line the railing that overlooks the lake. The menu showcases flavors from the sun-kissed Mediterranean countries. Among the offerings are crisp-crusted pizzas, pasta dishes such as Tortelli with Butternut Squash and seafood selections, plus various grilled meats. The dessert selection is excellent.--David Hofstede br>

Outstanding In Every Way
By jtorsney on 07/26/2007
I am not usually a fan of bistro food but Olives may have converted me. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and professional. The cocktail menu included some excellent drinks that hit the spot on a very hot day. Seating at Olives is either inside or on the outside patio with a view of the fountain show. The outside tables also have misters to keep diners cool which was a nice touch. I found the inside tables a bit dark, so I would sit outside again, weather permitting. Olives starts diners off with a basket of flatbread with tapenade which was very tasty. The Beef Carpacio and Fried Calamari were also excellent. Considering the quality of the food and service, I thought that the prices were quite reasonable. I look forward to eating at Olives during my next visit

Don't Waste Your Time/Money
By randyair on 08/09/2006
I had the opportunity to dine at Olives for the second time recently, on 7/30/06. During my previous visit last year, the food, service and ambiance were all terrific. During my recent visit, I would describe my dining experience as the worst I have ever encountered. To put this comment in perspective, I am 51 years old, have frequented Las Vegas almost 4 times per year and have the good fortune to be able to dine in many of the finer restaurants in the city. Service problems started from the time that we were promptly seated. I took at least 10 minutes for me to flag down a server to try to order drinks and to get menus. You could not differentiate the bus boys from the waiters. When we finally did get menu’s and proceeded to order, I tried to order the Veal Chop. The waiter tried to dissuade me from ordering this by telling me that because it had a bone, it would take too long to cook. When I asked him how long, he replied 30 minutes. I told him that would be ok. After we ordered it took another 20 minutes go get our soup and salad. When this course was finished, I assumed that our entrees would be coming shortly. Wrong. After waiting another 15 minutes (45 since we ordered), I asked our waiter what the problems was. He went about serving other tables. I tracked down the manager and advised him of our delay, he went back to the kitchen and said he promised we would be service in 3 minutes. After another 10 minutes (55 total) we finally received our entrees. After cutting into my Veal Chop (I ordered it Medium), it was completely raw in the center. I returned this, and at this point do to the aggravation of the evening, I completely lost my appetite. My perception of Olives is that it completely mismanaged, from the food servers to the kitchen. The dining room appeared to be understaffed. There are just too many better restaurants to warrant returning to Olives or to recommend to friends our business colleagues.

Was it worth it?
By markl202 on 08/08/2006
As we're running down the airport terminal, trying to catch our plane back to Jersey, I am wondering if our last sojurn to Olives was worth missing our plane. We caught the plane and I'm still wondering. If all we ate was the carpaccio (the best I had all week) and the flat bread, (pizza) I would say yes. But we had to have the $16 dollar burger and the same for a sandwich, all that were good but we're not talking carpaccio good. Anyway, the service is great if not reserved and the food excellent and since you are in the Bellagio, why not pay $16 for a burger. By the way, did I say order the carpaccio. Thanks Jeff!!, and next time run faster!

We always have a great time at Olives. They have the finest staff in all aspects. We have incredible dining experiences there every time. Flatbread pizzas, Great appetizers, Halibut, Trout, Filet Mignon. Outstanding wine list and Cocktails. Just about perfect. Love their patio and the view of the fountains. This is the best Outdoor Dining in Las Vegas. Indoor or Outdoor, Olives is delicious.
