Romance, like love, doesnt always come cheap. Located on level 107 of the Stratosphere Tower, the elegant Romance at Top of the World provides the perfect backdrop for impressing that special someone. The central bar and lounge area is a vision in deep burgundy accentuated with subdued lighting and candles. The music of the William Moran Jazz Trio and the amazing views of Las Vegas after dark have set the stage for more than a few marriage proposals. Theres no cover charge for all this ambiance. Howeverthe bar specializes in upscale beverages, among them The Top of The World Martini (Hennessy Paradis, Grand Mariner, and Ultimat CV Vodka -- shaken, not stirred) for $100. If that doesnt faze you, there are also 12 private VIP sections offering luxurious trappings and bottle service. The casual chic dress code is strictly enforced. David Hofstede

The best ambience anywhere

Everyone has been in a tall building and looked out the window. The Stratosphere tower is unlike any other perspective you have previously encountered. The entire design of the Romance Lounge's windows gives one the impression of looking down rather than out. It is dizzying to say the least. The lounge, which was redecorated in late 2005, is romantic in and of itself. The incredible musicians add a bit of nostalgia, not in the sense of being anachronistic, but of being surrounded by LIVE music...a rarity in today's world. The cocktails may be a bit expensive, but you get a good sized hand pour and that too is remarkably lacking at other forums in the Las Vegas valley where the gun shoots exact measurement. The value, rather than the price, should be the basis of comparison.
