It doesn't matter that the name of this all-night watering hole evokes the memory of Betty White's ditzy character on 'The Golden Girls' (in fact, that's probably the point) -- for two decades, Blanche has served as Nassau County's de facto ''full-time'' gay bar. The atmosphere is welcoming (friendly partyers of any and all persuasions are welcome), and the bartenders keep portioning out the inebriants until it's almost time for breakfast at the nearby diner. You never know what you'll find on the agenda -- male go-go dancers flex their muscles every Friday and Saturday night, and the club has been known to host a mean strip-pool tourney. Karaoke is out of commission for awhile until the club finishes its much-anticipated renovation, but talented divas can still belt out a rendition of 'My Heart Will Go On' as they belly up to the bar. Who knows -- maybe you'll even spot a Bea Arthur lookalike mingling at the after-work happy hour (5-7PM daily).

What it is-

First off I'd like to point out that the editor states that Blanche evokes memories of Betty White's ditzy character on The Golden Girls... but for the record, Betty White played Rose- Blanche was the man-crazy one of the group, who was portrayed by Rue McClanahan. Blanche can be kind of lame, but there's a decent bunch of people in a bar that as far as I see it- is a stronghold of alcohol till 4AM, every night of the whole year. The renovation cleaned the place up a bit- but it's no mega-lounge but rather a nicer looking dive bar. Pool table is still there, and the drinks are constantly good. Basically- if you're reading this, you should know that in Nassau County this is your only gay bar game in town. Deal with it. What choices are left?

Cheers 4 Queers

Or Fried Green Tomatoes? Honestly, the place caters to guys between 30 something and up. But that's not to say that it was a bad time. Admitedly, the bar could use some nicer renovations; but it has that "Cheers" kinda feel to it. You can see that all these guys know each other and have for a long time. Drinks are cheap (compartively); and both bartenders are cute, sweet, and really friendly guys. (Peter is a force of nature). If your up for a low-key laid back night in a podunk bar with cute bartenders; decent drink prices; with all of those "gay" tracks that you secretly enjoy; Blanche is where to go. If you want to sit down; or you want to dance; or be rubbing up against _that_ hot guy; Blanche isn't going to cut it. Totally the place to go when you don't feel like trying.
