A year after the end of the First World War, Pasquale Iavarone arrived with his wife at Ellis Island, determined to make a new life for his family in Brooklyn. With four Neapolitan friends, the Iavarone pork store was formed and introduced many non-Italian Brooklynites to southern Italian delicacies like coppa and prosciutto. Almost 90 years later, Pasquale's descendants are doing the same thing at their several locations, including the Wantagh branch, which boasts all the Mediterranean treats the fratelli Iavarone have been selling for so long, like Cacciota with black truffle, Italian Fresh Asiago, Spanish Manchego, sweet soppresata, capicola, mortadella, and Genoa salami. If you can't choose, try ordering a bit of everything with an antipasto sampler tray with eggplant rollatini, mozzarella en carozza, stuffed mushrooms, friend capellini cakes, and stuffed zucchini. A final word of advice: After almost 90 years of making sausage, these brothers may have perfected the process, so order some of that too.

Thanks iavarone
By Sambannana on 05/16/2008
Iavarone means a great party! I recently threw a birthday party for my wife. Not wanting to cook I ordered food from Iavarone's. Not only was I extreamly impressed by the excellent service of the staff, but I was blown away by the gererous size platters, and the fantastic taste of the food from iavarone's. On another occasion I had food delivered to a friends house who lost a family member, and was having company from out of town stay at their house. To alleviate the pressure for them to cook for the company I confidently sent them a platter of food from Iavarones. The reasonably priced platter had the family fed for days, and I continually recieved compliments on how delicious the food was. Thank You Iavarone!

As a long time customer of all the Iavarone locations, the one thing that I have always found is their attention to detail in very facet of their organization. Whether it be the quality of their salads, prepared entrees, meats, produce along with their very cheery and helpful personnel they have and will always be a hit with me along with my family & friends. A real find in my estimation and one I highly recommend to visit; you won’t be sorry.

Excellent food, great people
By macman22 on 04/01/2007
Iavarone brings back memories of my days in Bensonhurst Brooklyn... the selection, atmosphere and variety are outstanding and the prices are more than fair considering the quality of the food and products. In addition, the family and managers have not forgotten their roots and they always take care of the neighborhood. They have sponsored events for local schools, consistently donate baskets for fund raisers and recently did an amazing job for the Sons of Italy. My father and his friends at the Sons of Italy could not stop raving about the food and the generosity of the Iavarone family. Hats off to Italian Americans who honor their heritage and the original pork store that started it all. Try it, you will not be sorry that you did. - Armando

Unlike any other food store

I have been customer of this excellent gourmet food store since its opening. Let me first start by saying not only is this THE most wonderful place to shop for such delicous food ( many thanks to Chef Marco) but the owners Joe and Chris and the entire staff make it such a great place shopping experience. I have never walked into this establishment without a warm greeting from one of the employees, from Ginny to Louis to Sal, and the list goes on. I have had the pleasure of of catering numerous times from Iavarone and have been more pleased each and every time, something I would think would be very difficult to do again and again. Chef Marco is extroadinary and takes pride in each and every dish that he prepares. The fish department is another wonderful place to shop. Joe is always so kind and helpful in chosing a delicious piece of fish. Asking him to shuck 5 lbs. of clams while I continue shopping is never a problem. (thank you Joe) Coming home after a long day at work and going into Iavarone's makes it very easy to prepare an entire dinner including picking up a loaf of hot bread and a delicious dessert. Something I couldn't do in any supermarket. Thank you Iavarone Bros for opening this wonderful gourmet store in Wantagh.
