If a deli could dream, it would probably envision a luxurious dining room with white-linen napery and oil paintings, where diners could extol the craftsmanship of the cold-cut slice and relish the relish. Patrons of the Pastrami King restaurant (which is connected to the deli) are living this dream, but with much more to choose from than just sandwiches and soup. The dining room is simple and elegant, and the tables occupy their own little province of wood floor, just within a flickering boundary of candlelight. So forget the bologna, and sit down to a succulent brisket of beef with potato pancakes, applesauce and gravy. Or turn to the "Health Corner" section of the menu, where you can ostensibly relieve the arteries with -- no joke -- Southern fried-chicken salad. Who could argue with an elegant dining room with an eclectic menu, not to mention gefilte fish with horseradish?

JUST OK
By ajp0007 on 09/25/2007
Brisket so dry I almost choked. The rye bread tasted like government surplus. Definitely not good rye at all. No quality at all. Ruined what little there was to the sandwich. Mustard was store bought 99 cents, The sandwich was stacked in the middle and empty on the ends. Chinsey. My wife really liked the chopped liver but it appeared diluted with some kind of cream to me. Take out Knishes are your best buy and tasted good............................................... Keep searching

Fantastic Fulfilling and Fast
By hirschhorn2003 on 02/16/2007
The food at Pastrami King is out of this world. The Pastrami and or Corned beef is hot , fresh and juicy with a dab of Hebrew National mustard on Rye bread and a real kosher sour dill to top it off. Cole Slaw as an accompaniment and a Dr. Brown's Black Cherry. What more can anyone ask for? Besides, the cashier is cute and friendly and the staff is really superb. fast, efficient and courteous. I would recommend Pastrami King in a heart beat to anyone on the island who is looking for real lower eastside style deli food, without having to go to the city for it.
