No can openers, no freezers, no microwaves -- what type of kitchen is this, anyway? It's the culinary home base of Green Cactus Mexican Grill, and it's missing all those usually vital appliances because there's just no need for them. Everything in this Mexican eatery is fresh and made to order, so you won't have to worry about being served day-old pintos or sampling freeze-dried steak strips. Instead, salsa and beans are made daily (without lard, another no-no on the Green Cactus list), the steak is charbroiled and the chicken is boneless, skinless and marinated. Even the chips are made in cholesterol-free canola oil. Freshness aside, the food is standard Mexican fare, with a healthy variety of burritos (try the "two-fisted" version if you're really ravenous), quesadillas, tostadas, nachos and tacos. There could be a little more ole in the atmosphere (it's nothing more than a fast-food joint with the smell of guac in the air), but if you've been longing for fresh, Ixtapa-style eats that Taco Bell just can't rival, then Green Cactus is a healthy alternative.

YUM
By gcdishes1 on 01/03/2007
Haven't been to this location - HAVE been to the ones in Roslyn Heights & Islip. The food is constantly yummy & service is fast and friendly. The fixings bar is always well stocked with hot peppers & sauces and there are unusual sauces on the tables - other than tabasco & red hot.

Used to Love This Place!
By drobinson102 on 10/28/2005
I used to love this place, but I find that when I go there now the place is usually filthy and the people behind the counter are extremely UNFRIENDLY! On the last 2 occasions we stopped there (both times on a Monday night), there was food all over the floor and tables in the dining area and it looked like nothing had been wiped down for several hours. Also, the people behind the counter are the most unfriendly individuals I have ever come across. The food itself still tasted great, but we probably won't got back for a while, if ever -- at least until we hear they've cleaned it up and maybe hired someone with some personality!
